It’s not surprising that many find this process extremely overwhelming, in particular when it comes to deciding on how much you should spend. You only have to watch the latest romantic comedy or flick through the latest gossip magazines at your local supermarket to get overwhelmed by the unrealistic amounts spent on enormous, dazzling diamond rings in Hollywood. Let me emphasise again that this is unrealistic and is no suitable guideline on how much you should be budgeting for. 
An engagement ring can cost as little or as much as your budget allows. There certainly is no set price tag on engagement rings. What we always recommend is to settle on a suitable and realistic budget for you. It is so important to work this out right from the beginning, before you even begin to look at designs
There are all sorts of suggestions out there as to how much you should spend, from one month’s salary to three month’s salary. When deciding on your budget, try not to be influenced by other people’s guidelines. You certainly should not be getting yourself into unnecessary debt, this ring is a token of your love, it is the time and the thought you put into choosing the right ring that is most important. This is what is going to mean the world to your loved one, not how much you spent.
Once you find a jeweller you feel comfortable with, reveal your budget and a good jeweller will work with you to design the perfect ring to fit within it. Expect to discuss different design options and be shown a range of loose diamonds or coloured gemstones to fit your specifications and budget.
