Elliot and Rebecca
Becky and I first met as toddlers. Our dads are very dear friends and have known each other since University. After years overseas, Becky came back to Sydney to settle. Prior to the engagement, we had been dating for eight years. Although I was getting death stares every time ‘Single Ladies’ was played, we never talked about marriage or kids as we both wanted to give each other the courtesy of not rushing anything and to maintain the elements of surprise.
We then planned a Europe adventure and I knew it was the right time. As we were going over for her sister’s wedding, I knew I wanted to give it some time so the focus would be purely on her and her new husband to be. Counting back the days, it was to be beautiful Croatia where I would get down on one knee.
It was my friends last day on his trip, so I took full advantage of this and got him to set up the scene for me. Champagne, tonnes of oranges and the ring sitting in a private setting overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Nothing can prepare yourself for that moment, but it was something we will always remember and share, just the two of us. She was so shocked, I was shaking and it was the quickest bottle of champagne we have ever drunk! We sat alone for a few hours as the sun set and the lights began to light the city below.
