What Should I Consider When Looking for Diamond Stud Earrings?

Diamond stud earrings are a timeless, simple and elegant fashion accessory that help pull together any look by adding a chic Parisian touch to an outfit. This classic earring design is a wardrobe staple to look out for when purchasing jewellery. Diamond earrings themselves are varied and versatile enough to suit a number of different personal preferences, from metal colour to setting style to a veritable treasure trove of other options.

Can I Wear Diamond Earrings Everyday?

Yes, you can absolutely wear diamond earrings every day! As with other diamond jewellery that’s worn every day, regular cleaning helps maintain the life and sparkle of the earrings, and they should be taken off while you shower or use hair styling products.

Can You Sleep In Diamond Earrings?

Very few types of earrings are actually made to be slept in — generally, you should remove all jewellery, including rings, necklaces, and earrings, before sleep. This includes diamond earrings.

If you’ve just gotten your ears pierced, you should be pierced by default with what are called sleeper earrings so you can keep the earring in safely while you sleep to avoid the piercing healing over.

Unless the jewellery you’re wearing is made for sleeping in, the general advice is not to sleep in diamond earrings.

How Should I Clean Diamond Earrings?

When you’re cleaning and caring for your diamond earrings day-to-day, if you notice build up or dullness, use warm soapy water and a soft bristled brush to clean. Of course there are many other considerations when cleaning fine jewellery, so have a read through our cleaning guide to make sure you’re clear on all the basics.

For fine jewellery with set gemstones, like diamond earrings, it’s important to also get them regularly inspected to check your settings and get a thorough, professional cleaning.

What About Black Diamond Earrings?

At Larsen Jewellery, we don’t recommend purchasing black diamonds larger than 3mm round. This is due to their heavily included nature making them vulnerable to fractures.

If you want something larger or a different design, we’re always happy to speak about custom designed jewellery, and other alternative black stones like spinels or sapphires

Different Settings & Designs, Explained

Diamonds can be set in a number of different ways, depending on the kind of look or design you’re going for, your budget, the type of metal you want to use, and lifestyle considerations such as how frequently you’re planning on wearing the earrings. So, let’s take a look at some of the options for diamond earring settings, and the common considerations that come with them.

Claw

4 Claw

This is a classic design and one you’ll likely see most often for diamond stud earrings, including our diamond studs. The style of this setting is simple and timeless enough that it really allows the diamond to shine, and isn’t specific to any one occasion or type of event.

Basket

The design element which makes a basket setting a basket is a flat bottom. Flat bottoms, like what you see in our diamond cluster stud earrings, can be helpful if you’re looking for earrings that will be comfortable for long hours of wear.

Martini

Martini settings aren’t particularly common in earrings. Martini settings are typically three-claw designs, with a conical shape to give a particularly modern look — and the profile looks like a martini glass, which is where the name came from. Generally, martini style settings sit relatively close to the ear, but sometimes a side effect of that is the conical shape may stretch your piercing by pushing into the ear.

Bezel

In earrings, bezel settings are quite versatile, and can be used with single stones or cluster designs, like our Flora Shepherd Hook Earrings. As with engagement rings, a bezel setting completely encloses the edges of the stone or stones and is one of the most secure settings you can use. So, if you’re particularly concerned about the security of the stones in your design, consider a bezel setting.

Diamond earrings have been around for a long time, and we don’t see them going away any time soon. What do you prefer — the classic diamond stud, or a more unique shape, like our leaf-inspired Juni diamond studs?
