1.     Oval cut diamonds are the perfect option for someone who loves the sparkle and fire of round brilliant diamonds but wants to have something a little bit different.

The oval cut is similar to the round brilliant cut but features an elongated symmetrical shape that, when used in an engagement ring, gives the illusion of length to the hand. Oval cut diamonds are full of brilliance and fire and reflect light beautifully. There is no standard length to width ratio for oval cuts. They can be almost round, with a wider mid-section and shorter length, or very long and lean.

The experience I had with getting my fiancés engagement ring made at Larsen Jewellery was excellent from start to finish. Anna was amazing and really took the time to ensure she understood exactly what design my partner would like, even checking with other jewellers throughout the consult to see if the design was possible. The ring itself is perfect and we both couldn't be any happier.I'd highly recommend Larsen for those seeking a very personalised, professional and special experience when creating their custom jewellery. We cannot wait to return and begin designing our wedding bands!

We were assisted by Jacinta, who was very helpful and absolutely delightful to deal with and made the experience a breeze. The rings were beautifully crafted, we just love them so much! Would definitely recommend Larsen for anyone after an easy, relaxed experience when shopping for a wedding ring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We’re happy to answer them!

Are Oval engagement rings popular?

Oval engagement rings have had a real surge in popularity in recent years and look stunning with any style of engagement ring. Oval shapes are also particularly popular for coloured gemstones and fancy coloured diamonds.

Why do oval diamonds appear bigger than round diamonds of the same carat weight?

Unlike round diamonds, oval diamonds tend to show more of their weight on the surface of the diamond, due to its elongated shape and broader weight distribution. This creates the illusion of a larger diamond when viewed from above.

What is the ideal length to width ratio for an oval diamond?

While many experts agree that the most aesthetically pleasing ratio is when the length is 1.5 times the width, depending on the design of your ring, this can come down to personal taste. Selecting a diamond with slightly longer or shorter dimensions may be able to save you some money.

Do oval diamonds have a cut grade?

While GIA provides cut grades for round brilliant diamonds, it does not provide an official cut grade for oval diamonds. It does, however, still assess the polish and symmetry of the diamond. This information can be found on the GIA certificate.
