Cushion cut diamonds have become incredibly popular in recent years, they are one of the most popular choices after the classic round brilliant cut diamond.

The cushion cut looks like either a square or rectangular diamond, but with beautifully rounded edges for a softer look. There is no standard length to width ratio for cushion cuts. They can be the same width and length to appear ‘squared’, or alternatively longer and narrower, perfect for those wanting an elongated diamond shape without having the angular, ‘step cut’ appearance of an emerald cut diamond for example. The depth of cushion cuts varies from stone to stone, which can negatively affect the surface dimensions of the diamond. During an obligation-free appointment with one of our jewellers, we can happily show you the varying differences between each cushion cut diamond.

Larsen Jewellery is a premium designer of custom made cushion cut engagement rings. All of our rings are bespoke designs, so your choice is not limited to our range above. Please explore our large selection of cushion cut diamond rings, keeping in mind that the ring can be made with your choice of diamond, and in any metal – such as white gold, yellow gold, platinum and rose gold.

We welcome you to come in for an obligation-free design appointment with one of our jewellers who can advise you on choosing a cushion cut diamond ring design to suit your individual style. Our jewellers will take the time to explain to you the 4 C’s of diamonds so you know exactly what can be set in each design.

Why choose a cushion cut diamond ring?

With its square cut and rounded corners, the cushion cut diamond offers a vintage element in comparison to the modern princess cut. Much like a pillow (hence the name), the cushion cut may have less light return than a round shape, however, a well cut cushion shaped diamond will still sparkle beautifully. While quite similar to a princess cut, it’s understandable if you can’t decide which style you prefer – that’s why we’re here to help you decide. Feel free to bring in your own ideas and images of your dream ring, and we’ll do the rest.

Meet the talented team at Larsen Jewellery who turn your ideas into stunning pieces.

What Our Customers Say

Larsen Jewellery were amazing throughout the whole experience of having our engagement ring designed and crafted. I appreciate all the effort they went to to get the ring out to me on time being in a rural location. The ring is absolutely stunning and has been crafted with such skill.

We had 3 rings made by Larsen Jewellery and were looked after by Alex Somerville. Turnaround times were honoured, promises kept and getting in for an appointment at short notice when it suited our schedule wasn't an issue. Our rings were made specifically to our own preference, with good advice from our jeweller where we needed it. All of the rings are wonderful and we're very happy with our results. I've no problem recommending Alex, we couldn't have asked for better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We’re happy to answer them!

Do cushion cut engagement rings appear bigger than round engagement rings?

Cushion cut diamonds tend to be cut deeper with a higher crown than most diamond cuts. This means that 1ct cushion cut will usually appear smaller than a 1ct round brilliant cut. Not all cushion cuts are created equal, however, there is a type of cushion cut called cushion brilliant cut which has optimum length and width for its weight.

What is the difference between radiant and cushion cut diamonds?

While both shapes are similar, the cushion cut has rounded edges so its outer profile appears softer and can even appear more like an oval or round diamond. Radiant cut diamonds, on the other hand, have parallel sides with cut corners, creating a sharper outline.

Do cushion cut engagement rings sparkle?

Cushion cut diamonds are full of sparkle and brilliance. While not as brilliant as a round diamond, their larger facets can mean they display more fire (when the white light disperses into rainbow colours).

Should cushion cut diamonds be square or rectangular?

Cushion cut diamonds are available in a variety of proportions, the most popular being the 1:1 square shape and 1:1.2 rectangular shapes. There is no right or wrong here however and it comes down to what looks best in your design as well as your own personal taste.
