What are the shoulders on a ring called?
The shoulders of a ring are the sections that sit either side of the centre setting. Other terms are the upper shank or sides and they are often upswept towards the main diamond or gemstone.
Is hand-engraving on an engagement ring permanent?
The process of engraving rings permanently removes metal from the surface of the ring. With normal wear and tear, engraved details can appear to become more shallow. This is due to the surrounding metal wearing down to the same depth as the engraving which can give the false impression that the engraving is fading.
Can a ring with diamond shoulders be resized?
In most cases, a ring with diamond shoulders can be resized. It depends on how many sizes up or down and if the design has accent stones set a long way around the band. Please ask your jeweller if you’re unsure about whether or not your ring design can be resized.
