Filigree is forging or carving small metal pieces and combining them in intricate, lace-like patterns. Millgrain is a specific type of border design, where tiny beads are created along the edge of a ring band or setting.

Filigree is expensive because it is a labour intensive process. It takes many hours of skilled workmanship to create filigree designs in the metal of the ring.
