Beautiful remodel that I am thrilled with thanks Alex for expert consultation, design advice and craftsmanship - pieces I will treasure
Luke Bradley
Got in touch with Alex to make a custom ring for my (now) fiance and he was great. Even though I wasn't able to attend in person (which is recommended) and probably wrecked his head with emails constantly changing my mind about things he was always so helpful and responsive. He went through everything in detail and explained everything in the process too. I just gave my partner her ring and she thinks it is the most beautiful thing she's ever seen and is now planning to get further jewellery and wedding bands made by them. Could not recommend them more to anyone interested in getting a ring who like me has no real idea on what they're doing

I had a wonderful experience with Soukata who helped me (and Mum!) consider options to transform my pearls into some new high quality pieces. I'm thrilled with the pearl drop earrings and restrung bracelet that John made for me. I'd definitely go back to design some more jewelry with the remaining pearls. Thank you!

Explore Our Halo Engagement Rings

Halo engagement rings feature a border or ‘halo’’ of small diamonds around the centre stone. The type of setting utilised in rings with halos can vary from claw settings to channel and pave settings, depending on the style of ring.

Engagement rings featuring halos give the centre stone a larger appearance. This is a great way to add sparkle when choosing a larger diamond is not a viable option. This style of engagement ring looks beautiful with any number of diamond shapes for the central stone, including round brilliant, oval, emerald and pear cuts. There are also ‘double halo’ engagement rings, which feature two ‘borders’ of small stones for maximum impact.

Diamond halo engagement rings can range from classic designs to bold, contemporary designs using a mixture of diamonds and coloured gemstones in a variety of shapes and sizes. The possibilities are endless!

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We’re happy to answer them!

What is a halo engagement ring?

Halo engagement rings feature a central gemstone surrounded by a ring or ‘halo’ of smaller stones, most commonly diamonds. This style first emerged in the Georgian era (1714 - 1837), before increasing in popularity in the Victoria era (1837 - 1901) and continuing to be favoured into the Art Deco period of the early to mid 20th century. By surrounding the central stone with smaller diamonds, halo engagement rings can create the impression of fullness and size, adding sparkling glamour to an engagement rings' design without the need for an overly-large centre stone.

Are halo engagement rings dated?

Halo engagement rings have been enjoyed for hundreds of years, but they are still very popular choice today! With smaller stones surrounding a centre diamond or gemstone, halo engagement rings offer the opportunity to add extra sparkle, as well as to experiment with stone shape, type and colour to create a unique design. Working with our masterful designers, we can help you to create a bespoke piece to suit your design ideas and personal style, whether you're hoping for a halo engagement ring that is vintage or more contemporary.

Can I add a halo to my engagement ring? Is it expensive?

At Larsen Jewellery, we aim to create truly unique, special jewellery pieces, and your engagement ring is no exception!. For example, if you’d like to alter your solitaire engagement ring design to include a halo, we would be happy to work with you to make this happen, and can cater to a range of budgets and specifications. Simply reach out to us with your request, and we can help you to create a final piece that incorporates your preferred design, including custom stones and settings.

How many carats does a halo add to an engagement ring?

‘Carat’ is a term commonly used to describe the weight of diamonds and gemstones. It's based on the weight of seeds used to barter in ancient times, with 1 carat equalling 0.2 grams. Adding extra small diamonds in a halo to a design without making alterations to the centre stone will increase the total carat weight in an engagement ring. The total carat weight and price of any ring depends on how many stones are used in the ring's design and their individual weights. If you're thinking of adding a single or double halo to your ring, it's best to ask your jewellery designer about this, so they can alter the design to best suit your budget and aesthetic goals.

What is a double halo engagement ring?

A halo engagement ring typically features a centre stone surrounded by a ring of smaller stones, traditionally diamonds. A double halo engagement ring is a variation of this that adds a second ring of stones around the first, which can add further sparkle and complexity to the design. This style is often used to give the impression of size to a smaller central stone, and can make a ring appear even more glamourous and opulent than with a traditional halo.

What is a cluster halo engagement ring?

Rather than surrounding one large centre stone, a cluster halo engagement ring features a group of smaller central stones surrounded by a halo. This style of ring has a different effect from a traditional halo, with less of a focus on one central diamond or gemstone, instead showcasing a sparkling spectrum of stones.

Does a halo engagement ring make a diamond look bigger?

Yes it can, and this is one of the many reasons why halo engagement rings have continued to be so popular. For those looking to enhance their centre diamond, a halo of smaller stones (or a double halo) can create the illusion of increased size and overall brilliance. This makes halo style rings a great alternative to large solitaire styles.

What is a hidden halo engagement ring?

Unlike a traditional halo engagement ring, in which a halo of smaller stones are set face up around the centre stone, hidden halo engagement rings feature a halo set below the main stone, usually with the diamonds set sideways, facing outwards. This gives the illusion from above of a high set solitaire ring, but reveals a spectacular and sparkling surprise when viewed from the side. Hidden halo rings are a truly special style, and our experienced jewellery designers would love to work with you to create your own gorgeous hidden halo engagement ring.

Are halo engagement rings popular?

Yes, halo engagement rings are immensely popular thanks to their timeless elegance. With a setting that not only magnifies the centre stone, but also adds to its brilliance, halo rings are a sought-after choice for those seeking a glamorous engagement ring design.

For a halo engagement ring, does the halo need to be same size and shape as the centre stone?

No, the halo in a halo engagement ring doesn't have to be the same size or shape as the centre stone. When done right, choosing a slightly larger or differently shaped halo can be an interesting and effective way to highlight your centre stone, which offers a further opportunity to make your ring one-of-a-kind.

Can I have coloured gemstones in my halo engagement ring design?

Yes, absolutely! Although it is the traditional choice for halos, you don't have to stick to colourless diamonds. Whether it's sapphires, rubies, or even fancy coloured diamonds, coloured gemstones in the halo can create a striking contrast to your centre stone. Adding a pop of colour to your halo is just another way to customise it and express your unique style through your ring, making it a colourful and meaningful representation of your love.
